I’ve got a bad case of senioritis.<\/p>\n
The weather has been absolutely gorgeous up here in Chico this month. The majority of the days have been in the high 70s low 80s with clear skies and hardly any wind. It’s so nice I just want to be outside all the time.<\/p>\n
I’m also getting closer and closer to graduating. As I’m typing this, I have 7 weeks of instruction and 1 week of finals left. I’m so close I can’t believe it. I never thought it would happen. Neither, for that matter, did anyone else.<\/p>\n
Since I decided to go back to school I’ve gotten mixed reactions. The camps seem to be divided between those who have graduated from college, and those who have not.<\/p>\n
The haves have been very supportive. They have encouraged me, inspired me. They stress how important my education is. These people include my parents, sisters, and various friends with degrees. They are very interested in my major, what I’m learning, what my classes are.<\/p>\n
The people who have not graduated from college regularly ask me, “What the fuck are you doing up there?” They want to know why I’m not working full time. They show not the slightest interest in my studies. They hint that what I’m doing is a waste of time. “Liberal studies: focus Computer Science, minor in History? What can you do with that?”<\/p>\n
Support is nice. The others bother me. At a recent non-degree friends party I announced that I was graduating in May, finally after all these years. They made no response. When I asked if anyone wanted to come to my graduation ceremony… silence. Is it jealousy? I’m not sure. It hurts a bit.<\/p>\n
Anyway, that feeling soon passes. I am so excited about graduating I feel like peeing my pants. So what if I’m 32 years old? I’m educated. And that feels fucking great.<\/p>\n
Now to get my ass to class. I’ve been hanging out on my porch too much lately; drinking coffee, smoking cigars, and reading in the sun…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
