Not so painful, after all

Goodbye, Movable Type.  Hello, WordPress!

WordPress is the shit.  Easy to set up and maintain, easy to post blogs, easy to edit, easy easy easy.  Not only that, WordPress is totally free and open source.  And to top it all off, WordPress has a ton of free themes available.

I’m really happy with the WP interface.  The admin panels are logical, well designed, and of course easy to use.  The learning curve was, like, nothing.  And, it’s way more powerful than MT.

WP is free and open source and I love that.  The entire open source community is fantastic.  Most of the applications that I run on my computer are freeware/open source.  And in many cases, better than the stuff you have to pay for.  If it weren’t for PC games, I’d have moved to the freeware/open source operating system, Linux, long ago.

WP themes are everywhere I look now.  They are easy to install, free to use, etc.  I actually found very few MT themes that were ready to use and freely available.  Basically, if you wanted something that looked cool for MT you either had to do it yourself or pay someone else to do it.  On the other hand, I’ve found about 10 superb WP themes that I’m ready to use right now.  It was very hard for me to decide on the current theme.  And I didn’t have to edit a single thing.

I finished uploading all my photoalbums late last night.  Today I fixed the Photoalbums link (on top and on right side)…  everything is now working and updated and all that.

So that was a lot less painful than I had anticipated.  I really should have done this sooner.  I would have saved myself a lot of grief.

GOODBYE MOVABLE TYPE!

New stuff

A new blogging software suite and a new web host–I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time.

Not that I wasn’t happy with my previous host, because I was. The problem was with Movable Type.

MT is a bear to set up and maintain. I’ve spent more time in the last month cleaning out all the spam and trying to deal with my database than anything else. I’ve been so busy and so damn frustrated with that I haven’t even updated my blog in three weeks.

I’ve been playing around with WordPress and it’s a bazillion times better than MT. It literally took me 3 minutes to set up. That started with downloading the software and ending with logging in. It was that quick, painless, easy…

Unfortunately, my old web host didn’t offer MySQL and php. Now that I’ve got a new host, I’m free to experiment and stuff, and do all the things I’ve always wanted to do.

So here we go. A new beginning.
